Crisis on the Frontier 4X01
Location: Ten Forward
Timeline: Prior to Arrival at Ambush Site
Thea stood against the viewports of the lounge. It seemed like a good spot to clear her head from all the chatter of the upcoming crisis. She thanked all of the stars she could see that she was not a telepath. Hearing all of the voices out loud was enough to make her want to curl into a ball. At least when the real work began she could totally focus on her patients and drown out anything around her. Sickbay was empty at the moment but she knew it wouldn't be for long. Feeling a large presence behind her she turned and found herself staring into a pair of emerald eyes. Well one really, it was hard to be looking at both of them due to the shape of the head. "Hello." She said calmly, blinking a couple of times.
"Sorry to disturb you," Xynys hissed, offering a toothy smile. "I saw you standing alone over here, and I thought I would offer you some company."
"Are Gorn generally a social species?" Thea asked curiously, without the tiniest bit of bashfulness to her tone of voice as she asked the question. "I've only met one Gorn and he was in no condition to discuss such things."
"More than people give us credit for," Xynys answered. "But I'm curious who you've met. There aren't many of us that associate with Starfleet."
"He wasn't in Starfleet, a victim of a very bad plasma burn from an accident on a freighter. We assisted the crew on my last assignment." Thea answered. "I honestly did not learn his name."
Xynys nodded in appreciation. "There aren't many opportunities for pleasantries in such situations. It is comforting to know I will not be your first Gorn patient."
"Having only treated the one, I'm sure I'll need to brush up on your anatomy. Don't severely injure yourself in the next few days please." Thea glanced around her. "Would you like to sit? I'll gladly find you a drink. What do Gorn like to drink anyway?"
"Gladly," Xynys hissed. She took a seat at the nearest table. It brought her to eye level with the ship's doctor. "We drink about the same things you do - just more of it," She added with a hissing chuckle. "I have a soft spot for chicory coffee, if you're offering."
Thea had never heard of such a thing but she nodded, "Of course. The beverage of your choice." She waived a server over and ordered the coffee for Xynys and herself a Prometheus nectar. She might as well spurge since this was a social occasion. "Have you served aboard Endeavour long?"
"Nearly a year...I think. It's gone by quickly," Xynys answered. "You just came aboard right? I handled the configuration of your quarters. It was originally split into two for extra enlisted personnel."
"I did and thank you, I certainly appreciate the extra room. I don't always need it but it makes practicing my hand stands much easier. Course there's always the holodeck for that, but then you have to make time for it. Clearing away a few pieces of furniture is more efficient because then I can do it before I have to report for duty in the morning."
"Hand stands?" Xynys blinked at Thea. "Morning calisthenics?"
"Well that's all I do on a regular basis. I find it helps me think better, not while I'm upside down of course. But later in the day. And it helps with balance and I am not the world's most graceful person."
The server returned with their drinks and Xynys accepted her coffee with a toothy smile. "Thank you for ordering us something to drink," She said, hefting her mug.
"Oh you're quite welcome. Least I can do for a fellow crew member." Thea happily sipped her nector, occasionally looked out at the stars and just enjoyed the conversation as she and Xynys spoke.
