Welcome to the Endeavour

This is a Star Trek role-playing game set in 2394. The Endeavour is a Nebula-class starship assigned to the former Cardassian DMZ to patrol the border between the reformed Cardassian Union and the United Federation of Planets. Her mission is threefold: quash piracy activity in the region; interdict vice and contraband; and provide support to Federation and Cardassian colonies. The Endeavour serves as the flagship for Task Force 72 of Obsidian Fleet. We encourage you to explore our site, read through our posts, and if you are so inclined join us on our adventure!

Our vision of Tomorrow's possibilities, written with the knowledge of today. The place where scientific discoveries and imagination meet.
Where our dream of exploring the galaxy becomes a reality. A place to use our creativity to portray what could happen in the future.
A place to make friends with those same ideals and fantasies. A place to relax and have fun. That is the Endeavour.

» Privacy Policies, the GDPR, and the Endeavour

Posted on 23 May 2018 @ 12:30am by Commodore Gregory Farragut in General News

Everyone,

I hope you are all having a good start to the week. No doubt your inbox is filled with messages from services, websites, social media providers, and all manner of internet-based companies asking you to review their updated privacy policies or "opt-in" to their services. This week the new General Data Protection Rule (GDPR) comes into force in the European Union. This regulatory mechanism represents a dramatic shift in how EU citizens and the rest of the world interact with their data and websites.

Even though this is an EU regulation, the GDPR is designed to protect EU citizens in the broadest way possible. It does not just apply to EU-based services. Rather it applies to any service or website "accessible" by an EU citizen. That includes our website and just about every website you've ever used or visited.

In short: it's a big deal.

Now for our humble site, we've had excellent support from Utopia Host and the Obsidian Fleet community at large. A big thanks goes to Alidar for getting our privacy policy ready to go. It is EXTREMELY important that everyone -- EVERYONE -- review the privacy policy. You will see it as a new menu item at the top of the page. Right now it isn't very pretty, but compliance with the GDPR requires it be accessible on every page, to every user.

In the coming weeks, the creators of NOVA will have an update to assist with implementation of GDPR requirements.

In the meantime, I must stress that you all need to read the policy, and please acknowledge your understanding and accession to our storage of your data (login information and IP addresses used to track applications) by sending Alidar and Myself a PM stating that you either "Agree" to the terms of the policy or "do not agree" and wish to have your data cleansed and be removed from the site.

We are all struggling and adapting to this new policy, but I do believe it's for the best. If you have questions about the policy please do not hesitate to reach out to us here or on Discord.

Regards,

Jake

Everyone! Please welcome our newest player aboard! Bill Hendrix will be our new Chief Engineer played by my counterpart, Lancaster, over on the Imperator. This is a great time to do introductory JPs with our new player and help get his character integrated into the crew.
